Client Brief summary:

A client brief is a document that includes the requirements, deadlines and expectations for a project. The client who created it will give it to the producer they hired so that they know what they need to produce and when they need to have it finished by.

1) Why do clients write briefs?

Clients write briefs as it leads to better, more effective and measurable work. This means that the producer who is working for the client have to make sure that they know exactly what the client is looking for and when they need it done by. It's essential that they they can preform to their best possible standards. By making sure that the producer knows explicitly what the client wants, they can work to their strengths and make sure they produce adequate work. The client will outline the specifics of what they need and allow the producer to get on with the work.

Another reason as to why clients create briefs is because by doing so they are saving money and time. This is because they already have the idea and plan written down in details, they now just need the producer to turn it into a reality. They save time as there are no negotiations unless a negotiated brief. The biggest waste of time would be to put the producer through production meetings to give their opinions and thoughts. By already having a brief the client is able to tackle other tasks relating to the project as the producer already has all the information they need to complete their task.

Finally having a brief from the client enables fairer remuneration, each person working on the project know exactly what they need to do to earn the stated amount of money. There is no loosing track of the money they are spending as it is already budgeted into the brief. Staff cannot argue that they were underpaid as it is already clearly stated in the document.
The scale of the project is dependent on the pay scale in regards to how much certain people are paid for the hours they are working.

There are many different elements that a brief should have including:
-describing you as the client
- summarising the project
- explaining objectives (including target audience for project)
- outlining deadlines

All of these elements have a different purpose, in terms of describing the client, the brief should include a detailed description of who they are working for as this will give them an idea of the kind of thing they need to create. They need to know background so they can adjust their approach accordingly. In regards to summarising the objectives, this should focus on explicitly what the clients wants for their project. Summarising the project helps the producer to understand and acknowledge what the client wants as a whole and what they want to be presented as the end result.
The brief that the client uses will also include all the deadlines for certain parts of the project along with an overall deadline for the complete one.

  1. You've completed very good, detailed answers here and your SWOT analysis looks brilliant.

For revision, please write a paragraph explaining how the SWOT analysis helped you/why it is a good pre-production document.
